Dacula, GA – An 18-year-old Burger King employee from Dacula, Georgia, has captured hearts across the nation after showing remarkable dedication and work ethic on the night of his high school graduation. Mykale Baker, known for his unwavering commitment to his job, went above and beyond when he noticed his colleagues struggling with a heavy workload during his late-night meal at the fast-food restaurant.
A Graduation Night to Remember
Baker, who had just completed his high school graduation ceremony in May, could have easily taken the night off to celebrate, but he did the opposite. After the ceremony, instead of relaxing, he stopped by Burger King where he had worked for quite some time. Upon noticing that his coworkers were overwhelmed with orders, Baker didn’t hesitate.
“I wasn’t even clocked in,” Baker said. “I just put gloves on and said, ‘What do you all need help with?’” Still dressed in his graduation sash and medals, Baker jumped in to help without expecting anything in return.
A Gesture That Didn’t Go Unnoticed
Customer Maria Mendoza was at Burger King when she witnessed Baker’s selfless act. She was so impressed by his integrity and hard work that she captured the moment on video and posted it online. “There’s not a lot of people who are like that,” Mendoza remarked. “Thirteen years of school, you graduate. The last thing I would think is somebody would go to work!”
Mendoza also started a crowdfunding campaign to reward Baker for his dedication, and it quickly gained traction. The campaign has raised more than $200,000, with the funds intended to help Baker pursue his dream of becoming a master auto mechanic and eventually opening his own shop.
A Reward for Dedication
The story didn’t end there. The Burger King Foundation, recognizing Baker’s outstanding character and work ethic, surprised him with a $10,000 gift to help support his goals. The foundation also extended the same generosity to Mendoza, giving $10,000 to her daughter Daizie, who had also just graduated high school.
A Lesson in Hard Work
Baker’s mother, Demeshiah Scott, has always emphasized the importance of hard work, regardless of who is watching. “She always taught me to work hard, even if you think no one is watching, because you never know when someone is,” Baker shared.
Baker’s story is a testament to the power of doing the right thing, even when no one is looking, and the unexpected rewards that can come from it. His genuine kindness and strong work ethic have earned him well-deserved recognition and an incredible opportunity to follow his dreams.
