CHELSEA, MANHATTAN — A 21-year-old man was shot and killed Wednesday night during a violent altercation in Chelsea, according to the New York Police Department (NYPD).
Police responded to a 911 call reporting an assault in progress shortly before 9:20 p.m. in front of 431 West 17th Street. When officers arrived, they found the victim unconscious and bleeding from a gunshot wound to the neck, officials said.
Emergency responders transported the man to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
According to preliminary reports, the shooting followed a physical fight between the victim and the gunman. Authorities have not confirmed what led to the confrontation.
While the victim has been identified, his name is being withheld pending family notification.
As of Thursday morning, no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains active and ongoing. Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact NYPD Crime Stoppers.
