Las Vegas — Two people were killed and a suspect is in custody following a shooting in front of the Bellagio Fountains on the Las Vegas Strip.
Manuel Ruiz, 41, walked into a Henderson police station on Monday morning and turned himself in. He is charged with two counts of murder and the use of a deadly weapon, according to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.
The shooting occurred around 10:40 p.m. Sunday, when two Metro officers on routine patrol heard gunfire and ran toward the area, where they discovered two people with gunshot wounds on the sidewalk, according to LVMPD Undersheriff Andrew Walsh.
Ruiz is known to police, and the shooting was an isolated incident resulting from a conflict between the suspect and the victims, Walsh said early Monday morning. Walsh didn’t mention Ruiz at the time.
“The suspect and victim had previously engaged in some type of conflict using a variety of social media platforms,” Walsh informed us.
Witnesses told 8 News Now that they saw the shooter throw the gun into some bushes, and police did find it.
A video of the alleged shooting posted on social media showed a man pointing a gun at another man off camera.
Police said a Zoox robotaxi was in front of the fountains at the time of the shooting. These vehicles have wrap-around exterior cameras.
Las Vegas Boulevard was closed at Flamingo Road until approximately 5:30 a.m. Monday.
The Clark County Coroner’s Office will release the identities of the shooting victims.
Metro urges anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Homicide Section at (702) 828-3521, or Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555.
